Guided Fishing Safaris in New Zealand's South Westland waters.

Superb guided fishing opportunities exist for Brown and Rainbow Trout fly-fishing and Salmon and deep-sea fishing in South Westland on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.
Wapiti Park, through it's own guided Hunting and Fishing operation offers both the recreational angler and the serious fly-fisher excellent opportunities for superb brown trout fishing in small spring-fed streams, mountain rivers, and pristine lakes. Salmon are possible all year round in local lakes and during the seasonal run in the rivers.

Our guided Hunting and Fishing operation, La Fontaine Safaris, takes its name from the world-renowned flyfishing water - La Fontaine Stream - well known for its superb brown trout flyfishery. This stream with its population of true wild browns offers Anglers trout in the 2-7lb range with the possibility of a double figure trophy, and is located only 5 minutes from the Lodge gates!

La Fontaine's experienced guides know the local area well and can introduce you to many top waters all within 30 minutes drive of the lodge.

A full guiding service is offered for fly-fishing, spin/threadline, freshwater and deep-sea boat fishing, and surfcasting off rugged local beaches.

Reservations are essential for the deep sea boat fishing and species targeted can include tuna, shark, grouper, blue cod, terakihi, trumpeter, snapper, kingfish, elephant fish and kawahi.

< La Fontaine caters for all levels of proficiency and our guides are quite happy to give instruction to the novice seeking to try their hand for the first time.

Why not stay for a few days and let us introduce you to the thrill of night fly-fishing for double figure browns in lake Mapourika, catching Red Perch in lake Mahinapa, or for the more adventurous Heli-fishing for wilderness browns and rainbow.

A full equipment hire service is available as are flys / lures for the region, however if bringing your own we advise the following:
